Week 38



Normally in leagues the winners are decided on the last day of the season, but for the spanish league, the winner was decided in a true championship game between the two possible teams. On Saturday, May 17 Atletico Madrid and Barcelona went head-to-head for La Liga. 14 minutes into the game, Atletico striker Diego Costa, was forced off injured leaving the player on the bench, in tears.  Less than 10 minutes later went another key player for team Altetico, Arda Turan. Injured hip, Arda broke down into tears as well. Both players unsure whether they'd be ready to play in the championship league next week. In the 33rd minute, Alexis Sanchez gave Barcelona their first goal. With an incredible shot, the ball hit the inside of the top post and soars into the back of the net. With the pace and power of this shot, Atletico keeper didn't even have a chance to react. With the score 1-0 at half, Atletico came in fighting. Getting a shot and hitting the post, and many corner kicks Atletico finally got their goal. With a corner by Gabi, he placed it the perfect position for central D, Diego Godin, to power head the ball past Barcelona keep and tie the game 1-1.  With many shots at goal, Barcelona keep fighting for the title. In the 64th minute, star Barce player Messi had put Barcelona back in front. With a loose ball coming straight to him, a powerful short-ranged volley went into the goal. The Lionel Messi was called off-sides, and the goal did not count. With Barcelona needing the win and Atletico only needing a tie, Atletico Madrid won the title.  Although Barcelona and Real Madrid didn't take first, they also still qualify for the Champions League.

  1. Dang, this soccer game sounds very intense. Too bad some of the players got injured, but there is always next season!
